Real Custom(er) Weddings: Meet InStitchu Co-Founder Robin & his wife Alli McGowan

8 September, 2021

There is perhaps no greater privilege than being part of a wedding. To be trusted with dressing some or all of a wedding party is a great responsibility and a massive honour we take on with a lot of seriousness, and a lot of pride – as a brand, we genuinely feel proud to play a small part in these special moments in your life. With that in mind, we’re excited to showcase some of these inspiring weddings, exploring the relationships and stories behind the customers that chose InStitchu as their nuptial partner.

Meet InStitchu’s Co-Founder, Robin McGowan, who married his wife, Founder and Director of Interior Decoration and Design Studio Laguna and Co, Alli (nee) Ledowsky, earlier this year in Sydney.  The pair’s wedding day was originally planned to be overseas, however like many, COVID-19 altered those plans.

1. How did you meet?

Alli and I had been dating since 2012 when we met at a mutual friend's birthday party. I popped the question to her in 2018 on a trip to the US and we had planned to get married in 2020.

2. Tell us about yourselves.

Alli is an Interior Designer and Decorator and runs her own business Laguna & Co. As well as managing her own residential and commercial projects she also helps conceptualise, design and project manage all of our amazing InStitchu Showrooms.

3. Tell us about your wedding.

Covid changed the way many of us thought about what a wedding really meant or what it could be. Our original plans were to get married overseas in 2020 with around 60 people. As things changed quickly and hopes of a destination wedding quickly faded, we decided that what we really wanted to do was to just get married! We ended up having a small ceremony with 12 family members then celebrated the next day over lunch with friends. It was different but amazingly fun and still special for us. We were able to celebrate with our original wedding guests in 2021 with a small cocktail party in Sydney.

4. Tell us about your wedding outfits.

As Alli hadn't been able to wear her wedding dress, we wanted a black tie event when we could finally celebrate. She complimented her amazing dress with a custom InStitchu women’s blazer. I wore an InStitchu double breasted black tuxedo. It was a classic look using a very elegant VBC fabric. I jazzed it up with some smoking slippers (which were also very comfortable).

5. What was your favourite moment from the day?

Tying the knot with our family. It wasn't the wedding we had originally planned but we both got what we wanted most - to marry each other!
