Recently, the team had the privilege of stepping behind the scenes at one of the world’s most respected tailoring facilities: the Dayang factory in Dalian, China.

A Legacy of Tailoring Excellence

Dayang Trands began in 1979 as a humble workshop in rural China, founded by Madame Li Guilian. What started with just 85 workers has grown into a global powerhouse of premium menswear manufacturing. Now a publicly listed multinational corporation, Dayang is renowned for its commitment to high-quality tailored garments and a proud partner of The Woolmark Company, of which we’re equally honoured to be accredited.

A Tour Through Tailoring Innovation

Over the course of the day, the team toured each floor of the expansive facility, gaining a first-hand look at the full journey of a custom made to measure garment, from raw fabric to finished form.

They began on the cutting floor, where bolts of natural fabrics — think fine wool, linen, and cotton — are carefully selected and checked before being expertly laser cut to exacting measurements. From there, they watched suits in various stages of construction move effortlessly along a high tech carousel system, gliding between teams like garments in motion.

They observed the precision of hand sewn canvassing, the delicacy of embroidery, and the mountains of linings and cloth rolls that make up the backbone of the sartorial offering. Every corner of the factory spoke to discipline, detail, and deep expertise.

Craft Meets Technology

One of the most impressive aspects of Dayang is how seamlessly traditional craftsmanship is paired with cutting-edge technology. As each level was explored, robots assisted on the factory floor, garments were transported automatically across workstations, and digital systems streamlined the tailoring process without ever compromising the handmade detail and quality that defines true tailoring.

Everywhere you looked, the Dayang team were focused and meticulous, quality checking every stitch, lining, and buttonhole with the kind of care that only comes from pride in one’s craft. From shirtings to suiting, every garment was treated as a reflection of the brand, and of the individual who would one day wear it.
