Our new Stylist Series brings to light the people behind our brand—join us as we discuss their journey's into the world of tailoring, from their first suiting experience, to their current style influencers and favourite suit details, to the items they place value on, their favourite coffee, literature, wine and more...This week, meet Caragh C, our New York City Showroom Manager.
Give our readers some insight into the first suit you ever purchsed?
The first suit I ever bought was from Ted Baker London. It was a forest green colour and it was immediately deemed my ‘power suit’. I always felt like such a boss walking around in that outfit. Anyone who knows me, knows exactly which suit I'm referring to. Safe to say, I ended up having a very low cost per wear on that little guy.
What items in your life do you place the most value on? Tell us about the items of value you have in your life - your most prized possessions...
‘Items of value’ is a very interesting concept in my life. I used to hold dearly many material possessions, however moving my life around the world has limited the amount I can collect and keep with me. The people that support me in all that I pursue are of most value to me. No matter where I go or what I do, their love and support is always a constant, and that’s all I could really ask for (corny i know, but the truth!).
Tell our readers something about yourself they may not know—tell us about yourself in 100 words...
I was born in Australia but moved to Ireland/ the UK when I was 8 months old for a number of years (unfortunately i’ve lost my cute little Irish accent). I studied Marketing & Communication at Uni SA & then went on to study Luxury Brand Management at Group Sup De Co University in France. I was able to study with, and learn from brands such as Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, and Remy Martin, Cognac which solidified my love for, and yearning to work within the fashion/luxury industries.
I have no one fashion muse, however I refer to cues from my environment, people I'm associated with, influencers, and brands. Living in New York, I'm constantly met with people whose fashion style inspires me.
Talk us through what you place imporance on when it comes to suit details…
For me, the silhouette of my suit is so important. A fitted pant finished with a cuff. A double breasted jacket, bold colours, functional button holes and statement buttons. I also love a black satin shawl lapel on a womens tuxedo jacket accompanied by sleek black denim jeans. I am so glad we have started womenswear. It has been requested for so many years!
What’s your favourite part about your job?
There are many aspects of my role that I'm grateful for, however having the opportunity to meet and learn from people in the fashion industry in New York, to introduce them to InStitchu and give them an experience/product that they are genuinely excited about, and to build relationships with new clients and brand ambassadors, are all specific highlights. We have an incredible team and for me, that is so important in any job that you take on. Our team makes it a true pleasure to work for InStitchu.
What are your tips on how to dress when working from home?
I would be lying if I said active wear hadn’t made it into the rotation whilst WFH! However my go to would be a camisole, blazer and pair of jeans to give me a bit of a normal routine vibe.
What do you wake up with in the morning?
I religiously order iced americanos from Eataly in Flatiron every morning...so much so that I think i’ve gotten to know every staff member. I even brought them all back Tim Tams from Aus...huge fans.
What’s your idea of the perfect meal and accompanying beverage in the food capital Melbourne?
New York is a hub for some of the most incredible food in the world, which is both a blessing and a curse, however, if I had to choose one favourite it would be Lilia in Williamsburg...some of the most amazing pasta dishes you will ever try. And of course, although sometimes a diamond in the rough over here, I always look out for a good South Australian shiraz to pair with meals out.
